Fort Recovery crushes Roughriders (05/06/08)

FORT RECOVERY - The Tribe bats were ready for an outburst.

After five straight games in which it scored four or fewer runs, the Fort Recovery High School baseball team followed up Saturday's 6-1 win over Versailles with a 10-0, five-inning trouncing Monday for the St. Marys Memorial Roughriders.

Frank Thien paced the offense as he drove in four runs for Fort Recovery (7-7), which won back-to-back games for just the second time this season. He was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base.

Travis Hart added a single, a double and two RBIs. Bobby Rammel scored three times, Curt Heitkamp had two runs and Cody Fiely added two hits.

Greg Kahlig tossed the shutout, giving up just one hit and two walks. He struck out eight Roughriders.

Patriot JV wins

Jay County's junior varsity baseball team gave up four unearned runs, but had enough offense to overcome them in an 8-4 victory over the visiting Blackford Bruins.

John Pettus powered the Patriots (6-1) with a home run. He finished 3-for-4 and scored three times.

Ben Vance had two triples and a run, and Mike Masters finished 2-for-3 with two runs.

Mike Masters earned the win, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and a walk while striking out four. Skylar Petty gave up two unearned runs on one hit in the final two innings.

Warriors top West Jay

GASTON - Liz Lennartz won a pair of events Monday as the West Jay Middle School track teams each dropped their season finale.

The Eagle girls team lost 61-39 to the Wes-Del Warriors, and the boys fell by a 65-35 score.

Lennartz led a one-two finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet, 5 inches with Chelsea Easton in second place.

She also finished first in the 400-meter dash in 1-minute, 8 seconds.

Sara Lennartz took the top spot in the discus with a toss of 58 feet, 8 inches, and Megan Price was first in the 1,600 run in 6:51.

Tyler Back won the shot put for the boys team, with teammates Devin Conatser and Taylor Hatzell in second and third respectively. Hatzell took the discus, and Shelby Wendel was first in the high jump.

Back, Dylan Friddle, Dalton Eyanson and Blake Crouch teamed to win the 4x400 relay.[[In-content Ad]]
