Fort Recovery defeats Shawnee

Local Roundup

FORT RECOVERY – The two Indian squads played even in the first, third and fourth quarters. It was the host team’s dominance in the second that made the difference.
Fort Recovery High School’s boys basketball team held the visiting Shawnee Indians (Lima) to just two second-quarter points Saturday as it picked up a 49-41 victory.
FRHS (6-1), which got a game-high 19 points from Elijah Kahlig, outscored Shawnee 9-2 in the second quarter as it held the visitors to 1-for-8 shooting with three turnovers. Kahlig hit a 3-pointer on the first possession of the second half for a 12-point lead, and the home team stayed ahead by at least seven the rest of the way.
Wade Gelhaus followed Kahlig with 11 points and also had game highs of 15 rebounds and six assists. Mason Evers scored 10 points. Trey Brock had 11 points for Shawnee.
The FRHS junior varsity team came back after trailing by eight at the end of the opening quarter for a 49-47 victory.
