Fort Recovery defeats Union City (12/21/05)

UNION CITY — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade girls scored more points in the second quarter than its seventh graders did in their entire game. Both formulas worked.

The Tribe eighth graders trampled the Union City Indians 44-11 Tuesday, and the seventh grade team grabbed a 17-12 win.

Chelsey Leuthold scored 13 points to lead the Fort Recovery eighth graders, who out-pointed Union City 23-0 in the second quarter. Jessica Taylor and Lauren Staugler each scored six points, and Kelsey Brockman grabbed five rebounds.

Nicole Dilworth and Lindsay Schroer each had four points to lead the seventh grade team as it improved to 3-1. Holly Thien scored three points.

Tigers defeat Jay

BLUFFTON — East Jay’s eighth grade boys handled one Wells County team, but couldn’t knock off the second.

After defeating Southern Wells Monday, the Chief eighth graders took their first defeat of the season against the Bluffton Tigers Tuesday, 37-27. The East Jay seventh graders slipped to 1-6 with a 34-26 loss.

Brad Horn and Adam Daniels each scored five points as the eighth graders dropped to 6-1. Ben Vance, Eric Homan and Tyler Freyburgher added four points apiece.

Drew Houck’s seven points were a team-high for the seventh grade team. Aaron Emerick scored six points.

Fort, Versailles split

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s eighth grade team used the first quarter to take control while the seventh grade team couldn’t hold on in the last. The Indian eighth grade boys defeated the Versailles Tigers 40-25 Tuesday, but the seventh grade squad fell to a 26-25 defeat.

Josh Wendel and Greg Kahlig each scored 14 points for the eighth grade team (2-1). The squad jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the opening period and never looked back.

After allowing just 13 points in the first three quarters combined, the seventh graders (2-1) were outscored 13-8 in the fourth for the one-point loss. Craig Kaiser scored 11 points, and John Homan and Shane Brunswick each added four.[[In-content Ad]]
