Fort Recovery falls to Russia

RUSSIA, Ohio - The Fort Recovery High School junior varsity softball team dropped its season opener Thursday 14-8 to the Russia Raiders.

The Tribe trailed 4-0 early before pulling even with a four-run third inning. But it gave up 10 runs in the next three innings, including six in the sixth, en route to the defeat.

Janelle Schwieterman racked up three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs for the Indians in the defeat. Stacy Gehle added three hits, three runs and a stolen base for the Tribe.

Taylor Guggenbiller and Brittany Sudhoff had two hits and two runs apiece.

Becca Tobe suffered the loss as all 14 runs against her were unearned. She gave up three hits and three walks while striking out three in six innings.

Shelton wins two

FORT RECOVERY - Alex Shelton turned in two victories Thursday to lead the Fort Recovery Middle School girls track team to victory.

The Indians scored 73.5 points to finish ahead of Parkway (39) and Anna (32.5). The Tribe boys were second with 51 points behind Anna (61.5) and ahead of Parkway (42.5).

Shelton powered the FRMS girls by taking first place in the 100 dash in 14 seconds and the 200 dash in 29.0. She also led the team's win in the 4x100 relay.

Sierra Pugh, Jessica Vogel, Elle Sutter, Breanna Jutte, Hannah Kaup and Haley Knapke all added single wins.

Nick Rammel earned a pair of victories for the Indian boys, taking the discus at 114 feet, 8 inches and the shot put at 40 feet, 3 inches. Josh Pohl and Isaac Keller also turned in first-place finishes.[[In-content Ad]]
