Fort Recovery girls score wins over Parkway (02/04/04)

Fort Recovery’s middle school girls basketball teams picked up a couple more wins Tuesday as they each improved to 9-3 on the season.

The eighth graders were simply dominating, rolling over Parkway 55-11. The seventh grade team scored a 25-18 victory.

The Indians’ eighth grade team tossed a shutout in the first half, rolling to a 32-0 lead at the intermission. Parkway finally broke through with four third-quarter points, but Fort Recovery dominated for the 44-point win.

Val Fortkamp paced the Indians with 12 points. Jill Pottkotter had 10 points and six rebounds, and Jenn Nietfeld added eight points.

The game for the seventh graders was closer, but the Indians still held the lead throughout. They were up 12-4 after one quarter, and built an 11-point lead heading into the final period before holding on for the victory.

Anne Koesters notched a pair of game highs for Fort Recovery with eight points and seven rebounds. Joanna Snyder had five points and five rebounds, and Kinsey Wenning added four points and six boards.

Fort boys split

The Fort Recovery eighth grade boys basketball team got a huge third quarter on the way to a 38-35 win over St. Marys Tuesday. The seventh grade squad also played better in the second half, but fell to a 30-26 defeat.

The eighth graders (7-4) trailed 20-11 at halftime, but exploded for a 19-point third quarter to grab a 30-29 lead. The victory came behind outstanding effort from Bobby Rammel and Lucas Staugler.

Rammel led the team with 16 points. He also grabbed five rebounds.

Staugler finished with 11 points. He added 12 boards to finish with a double-double.

The seventh grade team trailed 11-6 at the half, but cut the deficit to one point heading into the final period. However, they could not complete the comeback as St. Marys held on the final quarter.

Wes Kahlig paced the Tribe with nine points and nine rebounds. Toby Metzger had eight points and five rebounds, and Frank Thien also grabbed five caroms.
