Fort Recovery honors its winter athletes (03/17/05)

Fort Recovery High School held its awards banquet Tuesday to honor athletes from the winter sports season.

The Indians had another outstanding year academically, with 16 basketball players named to the All-Midwest Athletic Conference Academic Team.

Seniors Krystal, Brenda Rindler and Megan Wenning led a group of 10 girls basketball players who earned the honor. They were joined by juniors Julie Link, Kelly Link, Ciera Rammel and Kelsie Will and sophomores Sara Fortkamp, Vicki Roessner and Holly Stein.

Six boys basketball players earned the honor, all of whom are seniors. They are Greg Faller, Sean Kahlig, Todd Post, Stan Roessner, Dusty Tobe and Mark Willmann.

Krystal Rammel was the lone three-year letter winner from either team, while Brenda Rindler picked up the Indian Award for the girls. Roessner won the boys Indian Award, while Sean Kahlig was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Hoop league

The Randolph County YMCA is looking for teams for its two spring men’s basketball leagues.

Games will be played on Tuesday and Thursday nights beginning during the final week of March. The season runs through the first week of May.

Junior league

Sign-up sessions for the upcoming Portland Junior League season will be held on each of the next two Saturdays.

Those interested in signing up to play baseball or softball this summer can do so at the Junior League diamonds at Weiler-Wilson Park March 19 or 26 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The leagues are for boys and girls ages six through 15.

Swim coach needed

The Jay County Summer Swim Team is looking for a coach for the 2005 season.

Jay needs coach

Jay County High School is accepting applications for the position of varsity volleyball coach.

Hoops camp

The Purdue University women’s basketball program will host several camps for players in first through 12th grade this summer.

On the schedule are a parent/daughter camp for grades one through eight on June 4, a resident camp for sixth through 12th graders June 5-8, an offensive skills camp for eighth through 12th graders June 8-10, a high school team camp June 17-19 and one-day shooting camps for junior high and high school June 29-30. There is also a day camp planned for first through sixth graders Aug. 1-5.

Volleyball camps

Purdue University will hold three volleyball camps in July

The first camp is an elite hitter/setter/libero camp for players ages 14-18, which is scheduled for July 8-10. It will be folloed by a general skills camp for ages 11-18 from July 11-13 and a team camp/coaches clinic for high school players from July 15-18.
