Fort Recovery spikers crush host Wildcats (09/26/06)

LIMA, Ohio - Fort Recovery's volleyball team bounced back from Saturday's loss with a quick victory Monday, topping the Bath Wildcats 25-10, 25-19, 25-9.

The Indians (8-5), who fell to Division III No. 1 Anna Saturday, were in control throughout with Tiff Gaerke leading the effort. She racked up 25 kills and 11 blocks in the win.

Two-thirds of Abby Niekamp's 36 assists went to Gaerke. The senior setter also had a team-high 21 points to go along with seven blocks.

Rachel Stahl finished with 11 points and seven digs. Lauren Wenning had eight digs, Vicki Roessner added seven digs and Kinsey Wenning notched seven kills.

Fort Recovery won the junior varsity match 25-12, 25-23 led by 11 assists, eight points and four kills from Kelsey Wuebker. Heather Schmackers had nine points and nine digs, and Nicole Pottkotter had nine assists and seven kills.

Anne Koesters and Kelly Sudhoff each had four blocks for the Tribe (5-5).

JC boys soccer rolls

MUNCIE - Mason Shreve, Isaac Poole and Brad Horn each scored twice as the Jay County boys soccer team took out its frustrations on the Muncie Southside Rebels Monday.

The Patriots' 11-0 victory over their Olympic Athletic Conference rivals ended a three-game losing streak and evened their record at 6-6.

Shreve opened the scoring with back-to-back goals just a minute apart, both on assist from Ryan Wellman. Poole and Horn each scored their goals back-to-back, and senior Luke McClung matched Wellman with a pair of assists.

Also scoring for Jay County were Lucas Karpe, Scott "Scooter" Bruggeman, Derek Mills, Justin Budde and Justin Upp.

Mills saved both of Southside's shots on goal.

The Patriots defeated OAC rivals Southside and Connersville by a combined score of 22-2, but lost 3-2 to Anderson Highland Saturday.

Patriot freshman gridders fall

MONROE - Jay County's freshman football team struggled in a 29-0 loss to the Adams Central Jets junior varsity squad Monday.

Alex Langenkamp finished 6-of-15 passing for 44 yards for the Patriots (3-3), and Adam Coats had two receptions for 31 yards. Nick Stephens ran six times for 18 yards.

Josh Jackson totaled seven tackles, and Derrick Hamilton added six.[[In-content Ad]]
