Fort spikers crush Trojans

FORT RECOVERY - A 25-8, 25-13, 25-12 slaughter of the Arcanum Trojans Saturday put an end to a five-match losing streak for the Fort Recovery High School volleyball team.

Nicole Pottkotter had 19 assists, 14 points and five digs for the Indians (6-6), who opened 5-1 but had lost consecutive matches to Celina, Parkway, Anna, Minster and Division III No. 2 Versailles. Holly Brunswick added 12 points and two blocks.

Emily May came up with a team-high 12 digs. Chelsey Leuthold had eight points, and Olivia Thien totaled six kills.

Kayla Kahlig paced the FRHS junior varsity team with 14 assists and seven points in a 25-11, 25-14 victory over the Trojans. Rashell Muhlenkamp had nine points, and Kylie Kahlig chipped in five kills and four blocks.

Brunswick takes 6th

VERSAILLES - Marissa Brunswick placed sixth out of 131 runners Saturday to lead the Fort Recovery girls cross country team to a third-place finish at the Versailles Tour de Sewer.

The Indians scored 85 points to finish behind Marion Local (72) and the host Tigers (28) in the 10-team field.

The boys team was 10th out of 13 teams.

Brunswick led the Tribe girls as she finished three seconds ahead of Ansonia's Ashlyn Hemmelgarn for sixth place in 21 minutes, 17 seconds. Versailles and Houston swept the top five positions.

Casey Backs was next for FRHS in 17th in 22:07 ahead of Alexis Sutter (21st - 22:27), Nicole Heitkamp (26th - 22:53) and Samantha Tobe (32nd - 23:19).

Ryan Heitkamp led the Tribe boys team in 38th at 18:48 with Nathan Fullenkamp 41st in 18:56 and Calvin Kaiser 44th at 19:13). Joining them were Marshal Hull (85th - 21:00) and Zach Guggenbiller (98th - 21:56).

7th spikers win

FORT RECOVERY - Rachel Pugh served 13 points Saturday to lead the seventh grade volleyball team to a 25-20, 19-25, 25-22 win over Mississinawa Valley. The eighth grade team won the opening game before fading to a 13-25, 25-13, 25-12 defeat.

Haley Knapke followed Pugh with eight points and two kills as the seventh grade Indians picked up their second win. Tori Lennartz added three kills and two digs, and Makayla Grover totaled nine assists.

Sierra Pugh had 10 points, two kills and two digs as the eighth graders fell to 0-8. Ashley Homan added five points and two kills, and Morgan Dues had four assists and two kills.

Pohl finishes 1st

Josh Pohl won the Versailles Tour de Sewer middle school boys race Saturday as Fort Recovery finished third out of 10 teams with 84 points. Botkins was second with 81 while Russia took first with 35.

The Tribe girls finished fourth with 105 while Russia won with 52.

Pohl's victory came by less than two seconds over Roger Miller of Botkins in 11 minutes, 26 seconds. Derek Sutter was next for the Indians in sixth at 11:56.

Joe Gonzalez finished 18th in 12:43 ahead of Grant Hull (38th - 13:19) and Isaac Keller (50th - 13:48).

Jessica Vogel was third for the girls in 13:13, just three seconds behind runner-up Samantha Shook of Ansonia. Elle Sutter placed 10th in 13:44 followed by Kinsey McEldowney (23rd - 14:28), Cassie Gray (40th - 15:14) and Samantha Kaiser (48th - 15:45).[[In-content Ad]]
