Fort swimmers cruise in opener

ST. HENRY, Ohio - Four swimmers each turned in three wins Monday to lead the Fort Recovery Eels summer swim team to a 920-598 over the St. Henry Stingrays.

Ava Bubp posted wins for Fort Recovery in the 8-and-younger girls 50-yard freestyle, 25 butterfly and 100 individual medley. Carley Stone added victories in the 9-10-year-old girls 25 butterfly, 25 backstroke and 110 individual medley, and Cori Stone took the top spot in the 13-14-year-old girls 100 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 200 freestyle.

Perry Hull was the lone triple winner among the boys, taking the 15-and-older 200 freestyle, 100 freestyle and 50 butterfly.

Ocean Loya, Valerie Muhlenkamp, Alexis Bubp, Marshall Hull, Gavin Thobe, Grant Muhlenkamp, Riley Ellenberger, MacKinley Timmerman and Ryan Gray all won two events apiece.

Rockets rained out

CELINA, Ohio - The Portland Rockets got three-plus innings in Tuesday night before their game against the host Grand Lake Mariners was rained out.

Portland trailed 2-0 in the fourth inning - both runs against Derek Mounsey were unearned as he had allowed just three hits - when the game was called. Riley Muhlenkamp had the lone hit for the Rockets, who had struck out 10 times.

Alig leads Fisher

Jared Alig drove in three runs during Fisher Packing's seven-run second inning Tuesday to power the team to a 14-11 win over Graphic Printing in Portland Junior League Sandy Koufax baseball.

In the other Koufax game Tuesday, Portland Moose trampled Winchester 12-2.

Alig scored once for Fisher and drove in his three runs with a double. Sean Winget capped the second inning with a home run, and Michael Bruggeman scored three times.

Richie Keen led Graphic with two runs and an RBI.

Brody Speed homered in the fifth inning and finished with three RBIs and two runs to pace Moose. Drue Armstrong also hit a home run.

Trenton Osborne had a double and a run for Winchester.

Isch takes first

MONROE - South Adams High School senior Eric Isch won the Monroe Lions Club 5K Run Saturday.

Isch finished the race in 17 minutes, 33 seconds, winning by more than 30 seconds over SAHS graduate Nathan Rupp. He was first in the 15-18-year-old boys division by nearly two minutes.

Denise Conrad was the top female in the race in 20 minutes, 11 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
