COLDWATER, Ohio — The Indians got back on track thanks to a strong first half.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team bounced back from consecutive losses to build a double-digit lead, and then held off the late rally by the Coldwater Cavaliers for a 58-55 victory on Thursday.
The Tribe was up by as many as 17 points late in the third quarter before Coldwater came back to close the gap in the final minutes.
Kelsey Fiely shot 6-of-10 from the field and 10-of-11 at the line for 22 points as she led the Indians (11-4, 5-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), who dropped games last week to Division IV No. 4 Fort Loramie and Division III No. 4 Versailles. She also grabbed eight rebounds.
Tori Lennartz added 16 points and a game-best 10 rebounds.
Brooke Walsh racked up 25 points on 10-of-11 shooting for Coldwater (10-6, 4-2 MAC) in the loss.
In the junior varsity game, Kendra Siefring scored 10 points for the Indians as they fell 55-32.

Stars defeat DeKalb
DEKALB — The South Adams girls swim team closed its regular season Thursday with a 109-73 victory over the DeKalb Barons. The boys team also won, 94-86.
Ellie Kaverman posted wins for South Adams with times of 1 minutes, 12.59 seconds, in the 100-yard breaststroke and 29.97 in the 50 freestyle as the team finished 13-5. Cady Farlow won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke in times of 1:01.79 and 1:14.21 respectively, and Kara DeLong finished first in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.96 and the 100 backstroke in 1:06.69.
Cory Sank was the lone member of the Starfire boys team (12-4) to pick up two victories.
He had winning times of 2:04.01 in the 200 freestyle and 5:38.83 in the 500 freestyle.

SA girls cruise
BERNE — Dzejna Ahmetovic and Alyssa Bluhm each scored in double figures Thursday to lead the South Adams girls basketball team to a 33-19 victory over the Churubusco Eagles.
Ahmetovic tallied 12 points for the Starfires (7-10), who shut out Churubusco in the opening quarter and had a 17-point lead at halftime. Bluhm followed with 10 points.
Alyssa Anderson tallied seven points to lead the Eagles (3-15).
South Adams also won the junior varsity game, 19-17.

Tribe tops Coldwater
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team rolled to a 42-23 victory Thursday over the Coldwater Cavaliers. The seventh grade team also won, 26-25.
Micaiah Cox outscored Coldwater for the eighth grade Indians (9-3) as he tallied 25 points. Caleb Martin also reached double figures with 10 points.
Cade Wendel scored eight points to lead the FRMS seventh graders, who improved to 7-5. Eddie Siefring and Evan Post added five points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
