Fort wins first, loses second (04/19/04)

The Tribe needed nine innings to get the first. It didn’t have enough left in the tank to win the second.

The Fort Recovery softball team topped the Lincolnview Lancers 7-6 in Saturday’s first game, but lost 5-0 to the Celina Bulldogs in the second.

The Indians (5-4) led Lincolnview 4-0 after the first two innings, and 5-2 after the fourth. But, the Lancers scored four times in the sixth inning to pull ahead.

The Tribe evened the score at 6-6 with one run in the seventh. Ciera Rammel then delivered the winning RBI in the ninth with a double to score Tiera Judy.

Starting pitcher Alyssa Tobe went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Krystal Rammel also had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.

Lisa Grisez had two hits and scored twice, and Renee Evers doubled and stole two bases. Kristen Schwieterman scored a pair of runs.

Julie Smith got the win, allowing one unearned run in 32/3 innings. She walked two and and struck out five.

Tobe gave up five runs on seven hits in 51/3 innings. She struck out four and walked three.

Fort Recovery couldn’t find any offense in the second game, managing just three hits. Grisez, Megan Wenning and Krystal Rammel each had singles.

The Indians will host St. Henry today at 5 p.m.

Tribe loses pair

The Fort Recovery baseball team just couldn’t snag a win Saturday as it dropped a couple of close games to the Tri-County North Panthers, 7-6 and 2-0.

The Tribe scored twice in the fourth inning, once in the fifth and twice in the sixth of game one for a 6-3 lead. However, Tri-County came back with three runs in the sixth and one in the eighth to steal the win.

The teams were locked in a scoreless tie throughout most of game two before the Panthers scored twice in the seventh for the win.

Dusty Guggenbiller, Greg Faller and C.J. Tobe each had a pair of hits in the first game.

Guggenbiller doubled, scored once and drove in a run. Tobe had two RBIs and a run, and Faller scored twice.

Todd Post, Chris Galdeen and Tobe had the only hits for Fort Recovery in the second game. Post and Galdeen each smacked doubles.

Brad Fortkamp took the defeat in game one, his first of the year. He allowed one run on three hits in 11/3 innings.

Post was the losing pitcher in the second game as he gave up one unearned run in six-plus innings. He allowed six hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Fort Recovery plays at home today against Bath at 5 p.m.

Indians drop pair

The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team dropped both of its games against the Tri-County North Panthers Saturday, 18-11 and 9-3. It slipped to 0-6 on the season.

Both teams scored five runs in the first inning of game one, and Fort Recovery went ahead 7-5 in the second. But, Tri-County North scored 11 times over the next three innings to pull away.

The Panthers broke game two open with a six-run third inning.

Kenton Sudhoff paced Fort Recovery with two hits — a double and a triple — in the first game. He drove in four runs and scored once.

Jesse Fortkamp scored three runs, and Troy Metzger, Eric Weitzel and Jordan Staugler each scored twice.

Tony Diller took the loss, allowing 15 runs — four earned — in 51/3 innings.

Kevin Schoenherr went 3-for-3 with a double in the second game. He stole a game and scored one run. Tony Diller had two hits and a run, and Weitzel doubled and drove in a run.

Schoenherr suffered the defeat, allowing nine runs — four earned — on 12 hits in six innings.[[In-content Ad]]
