MINSTER, Ohio - Finally.
The wait was long, but the Fort Recovery High School softball team broke through for a Midwest Athletic Conference victory Thursday. The Indians won in the league for the first time since 2006, defeating the Minster Wildcats 2-1.
FRHS, which earned its last MAC win May 17, 2006, over Versailles, trailed 1-0 with just two innings to play. But single runs in the sixth and seventh innings ended its 16-game conference losing streak.
Kinsey Wenning, the winning pitcher, supported her effort with two doubles and an RBI.
Joanna Snyder and Carly Staugler each added two hits and a run.
Wenning earned the win for the Tribe (6-6, 1-2 MAC), allowing one run on six hits and one walk in seven innings. She struck out six batters.
Baseball falls to .500
FORT RECOVERY - The Indians dropped to 0-3 in the Midwest Athletic Conference Thursday with a 6-3 loss to the Minster Wildcats.
Greg Kahlig took the loss for the Tribe, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out five batters.
Brady Kahlig and Greg Kahlig each went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the defeat. Nate Keller added an RBI single for the Indians (5-5-1).
'Cats top JV baseball
MINSTER, Ohio - Fort Recovery managed just a single hit Thursday in a 12-0, five-inning loss to the Minster Wildcats.
Derek Sutter suffered the defeat, allowing 10 runs - three earned - on 14 hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings.
