Fort's Stein in double figures again for Defiance (12/01/07)
Collegiate Check-up
Make it two games and two double-digit scoring efforts for Holly Stein.
The 2007 Fort Recovery High School graduate followed up her 23-point effort to open her collegiate career with 12 points Nov. 21 in a 93-70 loss to Division III No. 2 Hope College.
Stein hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Yellow Jackets (1-1) and also shared the team lead with four rebounds. She added a pair of assists.
Scott Bruggeman
Jay County - 2007
Helped the Goshen College men's basketball team to the Anderson University Sam Pierce Classic tournament title Nov. 23 and 24 with seven points in the opening-round game.
Bruggeman hit all of his three field-goal attempts in the opening against the University of Cincinnati-Clermont, a 78-62 Maple Leafs victory, while adding two assists, two steals, a block and a rebound. He also had two assists and a rebound in the 78-61 championship victory over Rockford College.
On Nov. 20 the freshman recorded two points and two steals as Goshen, which is now 9-1, topped the University of Northwestern Ohio 77-74.
Tyler Niekamp
Fort Recovery - 2003
Grabbed four rebounds as his Division II No. 4 University of Findlay men's basketball team dominated the glass Thursday in a 97-38 trouncing of Tiffin.
Niekamp grabbed three of his rebounds on the defensive end for the Oilers (4-0), who won the battle of the glass 28-15. He also had one point, two steals and one assist.
The senior also had three points, one rebound and one assist in a 105-66 destruction of Indiana Tech on Nov. 24.
Joscie Kaup
Fort Recovery - 2004
Was named to the All-Big East second team after another record-setting season for the Syracuse University volleyball team.
Kaup joined teammate Cheryl Cobbina as a second-team selection after averaging 4.66 digs per game this season. The senior, who holds a slew of Orange records including the all-time digs mark of 2,205, also picked up ESPN The Magazine/Co-SIDA Academic All-District recognition.
Kurt Hess
Jay County - 2006
Led the Carson-Newman wrestling team to its first victory of the season, 27-14 over King College, earning the team's lone win of the night.
Hess powered the Eagles with his victory in the 149-pound match. He pinned Chuck Whiteside in 4-minutes, 16 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
