Foster grabs first victory for Cougars (09/17/05)

Collegiate check-up

Adam Foster didn’t waste much time.

The 2005 Jay County graduate picked up his first collegiate victory Friday, Sept. 9, leading the St. Francis men’s golf team to victory at a three-team meet with a score of 308.

Purdue University - North Central was a distant second at 352, and Goshen College scored a 364.

Foster earned match medalist honors with a 76 at Timber Ridge Golf Club. It was just the second college meet of his career.

Candace Northam

A 2002 graduate of Jay County, she opened her season with the St. Joseph’s College women’s tennis team by winning two of her first three singles matches.

Northam got off to a difficult start Friday, Sept. 9, winning just one game in a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Northern Kentucky’s Anna Dorado at No. 3 singles.

However, she came back with a pair of victories Saturday, Sept. 10. She defeated Wilmington’s Brittany Novak 6-2, 6-1, and followed with an 8-3 victory over Emily Prescott of Thomas More.

Northam is 1-2 in doubles matches this year, with the lone victory coming with partner Christie Van Eyk for an 8-4 win over Thomas More’s Alam Murga and Sarah Guenther.

Joscie Kaup

The Syracuse sophomore and 2004 Fort Recovery graduate reached double digits in digs in all four matches as the Orange volleyball team finished 3-1 at the Kent State Invitational Tournament last weekend.

Kaup racked up 13 digs in the tournament’s opening match, a Syracuse victory over Robert Morris. She also had one ace and one kill.

She added 13 digs and two assists in a win over the host Golden Flashes, and had 12 digs, one kill and one assists in a victory over Dartmouth.

Kaup had 10 digs and two assists in the team’s lone loss of the tournament, which came against Eastern Kentucky.

She has totaled 96 digs, 11 assists, seven aces and two kills thus far this season. She is the only Orange player who has appeared in all 28 games.

Cameron Hummel

The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology quarterback and 2002 Jay County graduate threw for more than 100 yards and was the Engineers’ leading rusher in a 49-7 loss to Mount St. Joseph Saturday, Sept. 10.

Hummel, who finished 14-of-27 for 113 yards, led Rose-Hulman to a touchdown on its opening drive, but Mount St. Joseph followed with 49 unanswered points. He carried the ball nine times for 65 yards.

Jill Roughia

The Jay County graduate helped the Huntington College women’s cross country team to a third-place finish at the Defiance Invitational Friday, Sept. 9.

Roughia placed third on the team and ninth overall at the 10-team event. She finished in 21-minutes, 33.4 seconds.

Sara Hough

A 2004 Jay County graduate, she led the Ancilla College volleyball team in digs as it took on National Junior College Athletic Association Division II No. 2 Kellogg Community College Thursday.

Hough finished with 19 digs in the Chargers’ 30-22, 30-20, 30-24 loss to Kellogg.

Individual statistics from the Pasadena Southern California Invitational Tournament, where Ancilla reached the final four, were not available at press time. The Chargers went 3-1 with victories over Saddleback, Chaffey and East Los Angeles and a loss to Cerritos in pool play. They defeated Canyons in the quarterfinal round before falling to El Camino — which went on to defeat Cerritos in the championship match — in the semifinals.

Jenni Little

The former Jay County player is injured and will not play for the Anderson University volleyball team this season.

AU sports information director Justin Bates said she plans to redshirt and return next year for her senior season.[[In-content Ad]]
