Four Starfires earn ACAC honors
Four Starfires recently earned all-conference honors.
Brianna Nevil and Rachel Simon of South Adams High School both earned a spot on the All-Allen County Athletic Conference first team. Samantha Sprunger and Alaina Johnston were second-team selections.
Simon turned in a team-best seven assists for the Starfires, and shared the team-high of six goals.
Nevil played the most minutes in goal for SAHS finishing with 82 saves.
Johnston matched Simon with six goals to go along with five assists, and Sprunger had two assists and one goal.
South Adams finished 2-2 in the ACAC for third place in the five-team group.
Miles takes 2nd
NEW CASTLE — Courtney Miles turned in a second-place, all-around finish Oct. 15 as she led a group of three area gymnasts who competed for Marion’s Mid-America Gymnastics at the Weekend in Paradise meet.
Miles posted a 33.55 all-around score to finish second in the 12-and-younger, Level 7 competition. She was also second on the vault (9.275) and floor exercise (9.125).
Riley Leavell was second on the bars with a 7.85 in the 10-year-old Level 6 competition. She posted an all-around score of 32.425 for third place.
Halle Hill turned in a second-place 9.125 in the 9-year-old Level 7 competition. She added an 8.7 for fourth place on the floor.
Miller gets ace
Ted Miller recorded a hole-in-one Saturday at Portland Golf Club.
Miller’s ace came with an 8-iron on the 120-yard, par-3 eighth hole at PGC. Mark Tatman witnessed the shot.[[In-content Ad]]
