FR boys edge New Bremen

CELINA — The Fort Recovery High School boys golf team had its top four golfers shoot in the 40s Thursday as the Indians edged the New Bremen Cardinals 172-173 at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Elijah Kahlig led the Indians (5-2) with a 4-over-par 40, one shot behind match medalist Travis Bertelsen of New Bremen and one ahead of teammate Derek Backs.
Chase Bruns (44) and Stewy Alig (47) rounded out the Tribe’s top four golfers.
Bruns and Backs both shot fired a birdie in their respective rounds, with Backs making his on the par-3 second hole and Bruns converting his on the par-4 sixth.
The Indians return to the links at 4:30 p.m. as they host Coldwater.

Starfires win
BERNE — The South Adams High School volleyball team defeated the visiting Bluffton Tigers Thursday, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22.
Cady Farlow’s team-high seven kills led the Starfire offense, while senior middle hitter Alyssa Bluhm added six. Bluhm also tallied nine assists, six digs and two blocks for South Adams.
Lauren Smith, Kylie Pierce and Farlow added five digs each, while Caralie Farlow and Bluhm had aces.
The South Adams junior varsity team fell to the Tigers 25-15, 20-25, 15-12. Kylie Grabau led the Starfires with eight kills and eight digs. Casi Evans added five assists and six digs, Chastity Guereca tallied six assists and four digs.
The Starfires return to action at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Wabash tournament.

Fort’s streak ends
FORT RECOVERY — After winning back-to-back matches against Arcanum and Jay County, the Fort Recovery volleyball team lost 25-13, 25-16, 25-13 Thursday to the St. Henry Redskins.
Tori Lennartz had team highs of seven kills and 11 digs for the Indians (7-5, 1-2 Midwest Athletic Conference).
Sierra Pugh added three kills and eight assists.
Cassidy Rammel tallied seven assists and three digs, and Kendra Siefring added three kills, five digs and an ace.
Caley Schoenherr added five digs and one ace.[[In-content Ad]]
