FORT RECOVERY - Victory was withing their grasp, but the Indians just missed.

The Fort Recovery High School freshman boys basketball team rallied from a seven-point deficit after three quarters only to fall 41-40 Monday to the New Bremen Cardinals.

The Indians trailed after each of the first three quarters, including a 33-26 deficit at the end of the the third. They made a comeback in an effort to get their second win of the year, but fell just short as they dropped to 1-9.

Shane Brunswick scored nearly half of Fort Recovery's points, finishing with 19. Ryan Schoen added 10 points, and Ryan Link scored nine.

WJ sixth splits

West Jay Middle School sixth grade girls basketball team split with Blackford Monday, losing the A team game 15-9 and winning the B team 20-4.

Chelsea Tighe was the top scorer in each contest, finishing with seven points in the A team game and 10 in the B team.

Kimbra Edwards had the other two points for the Eagles in the opener. Cierra Nichols finished with four points in the second game.

Tribe teams lose

NEW BREMEN, Ohio - The Fort Recovery Middle School boys basketball teams managed double figures just once in eight quarters Monday. The seventh grade team, which scored 17 points in its fourth period, lost 53-36 to the New Bremen Cardinals, and the eighth graders suffered a 54-15 defeat.

Chad Schroer scored 12 points for the Tribe seventh graders (3-10), who were down 14 after the opening period. Keither Fortkamp followed with 11 points, and Trent Kaiser added five.

The eighth grade squad trailed 20-2 after the first quarter and managed just a single point in the third. Jason Pottkotter and Kyle Jutte each scored five points.[[In-content Ad]]
