FR finishes with victory

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians capped their much-improved season with a victory.
Fort Recovery High School’s baseball team knocked off the visiting Marion Local Flyers 8-7 Friday to finish its campaign at 9-17 overall and 2-7 in the MAC. The squad had won just two games in each of the last two seasons, and had gone winless in the league for three straight years.
The Tribe fell behind 7-2 when Marion Local (10-16, 2-7 MAC) scored five times in the top of the fifth inning. But it fought back with two runs in the bottom of the frame and four more in the sixth for the win.
Senior Hayden Pottkotter earned the win as he tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Jared Kahlig, also a senior, pitched a scoreless seventh for the save.
Blake Boughman and Jacob Muhlenkamp each went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Collin O’Dell singled and scored twice.

Girls track seventh
NEW BREMEN, Ohio — Fort Recovery scored 37 points to finish in seventh place as the Midwest Athletic Conference Championships concluded Friday.
Versailles won the girls title with 147 points.
The Tribe boys scored a single point to place last in the 10-team field while Minster won with 173.
Kylie Kahlig followed up Tuesday’s title in the shot put by finishing third in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute, 0.54 seconds. Elle Sutter was fourth in the 3,200 run in 12:13.3.

Aaron Vagedes scored the lone point for the FRHS boys with an eighth place finish in the 100 dash in 12.02.

Softball drops finale
DELPHOS, Ohio — A six-run lead disappeared for the Indians as they fell 9-8 Friday to the host Jefferson Wildcats in their season finale.
Fort Recovery (4-21) scored twice in the second, third and fourth innings for a 6-0 lead. The Wildcats responded by scoring three times in the fourth, fifth and sixth to swipe the victory.
Senior Beca Tobe took the loss, giving up nine runs — eight earned — on 13 hits and two walks.
Melissa Lochtefeld went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI to lead the Tribe offense. Haley Knapke and Tobe each finished with two hits, a run and an RBI, Jackie Fullenkamp drove in two runs and Taylor Guggenbiller scored twice.

JV baseball loses
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery dropped to 3-18 Friday with an 11-8 loss to the host Jefferson Wildcats.
The teams traded the advantage several times, with the Indians leading 5-4 after three innings and 8-7 in the middle of the fifth. Jefferson pulled even with a run in the bottom of the fifth and then scored three times in the sixth for the final margin.
Derek Backs took the loss for the Tribe as he gave up three runs on two hits and a walk in one inning of relief. Cole Wendel tossed the first five frames, allowing eight runs — two earned — on eight hits and two walks.
Tony Keller had three hits and a run for the Indians. Nathan Lochtefeld added one hit and two runs.[[In-content Ad]]
