COLUMBUS, Ohio — The first conference loss of the season for the Indians dropped them three spots in the state poll.
Fort Recovery, which fell 42-41 Friday to St. Henry, slipped to fifth in the Division IV Associated Press high school boys basketball poll released Monday.
The Indians (13-2, 5-1 Midwest Athletic Conference) earned 150 poll points to finish 18 behind fourth-ranked Richmond Heights (14-1) and nine ahead of No. 6 Newark Catholic (13-2). Berlin Hiland (16-0) was the top-ranked team in Division IV for the fifth straight week followed by Jackson Center (17-0) and Edgerton (15-0).
The loss to St. Henry (12-4) dropped the Tribe into a first-place tie in the league with St. John’s (10-6, 5-1 MAC). FRHS plays at Marion Local Friday and Greenville Saturday before hosting St. John’s on Feb. 17.

JC wins 12th straight
MUNCIE — Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team closed its season on a double-digit winning streak as it defeated the Muncie Southside Rebels 50-45 Monday.
The Patriots (12-2) rallied for the victory by outscoring Southside 20-11 in the fourth quarter. They closed the season with 12 consecutive wins.
Nate Brackman led the effort with 24 points, and Justin Dirksen added 18.

FR freshmen fall
FORT RECOVERY — The Indian freshman basketball teams dropped a double-header Monday with the boys falling 32-31 to the Marion Local Flyers while the girls lost 32-21 to the Russia Raiders.
Evan Schoen finished with 10 points and four rebounds to lead the Indian boys (3-8), who lost on a last-second shot by Marion Local. Cole Wendel and Derek Backs each added five points.
Kara Jutte tallied 12 points for the FRHS girls, who finished their season at 4-6. Haley Knapke followed with eight points.

Jay girls roll
The Jay County middle school girls swim team won 11 out of 12 events Monday in a 118-68 victory over visiting Delta. The boys team fell 119-64.
Sophie Bader, Anne Vormohr and Ashley Mark each won both of their individual events and also teamed with Alex Bader to win the 200-yard medley relay. Sydney Mathias and Alex Bader each added an individual first-place finish.
Mathias, Vormohr, Alex Bader and Sophie Bader were first in the 400 freestyle relay, and Hannah Lykins, Katie Mast, Mark and Mathias won the 200 freestyle relay.
Sok Vormohr paced the boys team with wins in the 50 butterfly and 100 individual medley. Ian Reynolds won the 50 freestyle.

Marion tops Tribe
MARIA STEIN, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams each fell Monday to the host Marion Local Flyers by scores of 28-11 and 42-35 respectively.
J.J. Overton finished with 18 points for the Tribe eighth graders, who slipped to 11-5. Jackson Hobbs added seven points.
Tom Koester scored four points for the seventh grade Indians (3-13). Davis Will, Kyle Knapke and Caleb Martin chipped in two points apiece.

SA tops Norwell
OSSIAN — The South Adams Middle School wrestling team rolled to a 42-18 victory Monday over the host Norwell Knights.
Brandon Wynn, Briar Goodwin, Kadin Gerber, Grant Shaffer, Chance Sprunger, Kam DeLong, Drew Pollard, Gage Conners, Kody Coates and Arron Oyer each picked up wins for the Starfires. The team is 3-4 on the season.
SAMS also competed at Union City Saturday, scoring wins of 24-18 over Wes-Del and 66-30 over Selma while falling 42-22 to host West Side. Chance Sprunger earned victories in all three matches.[[In-content Ad]]
