FRHS blasts 'Riders

FORT RECOVERY — The Indians were closers.
Fort Recovery High School’s girls basketball team used strong finishes to the first and second quarters to take control Saturday on the way to a 55-30 victory over the visiting St. Marys Memorial Roughriders.
Senior Kylie Kahlig had 12 points to lead the Tribe, which scored the final eight points of the first quarter and the final 11 of the second. Fort Recovery led 34-16 at halftime, and put the game away by holding the Roughriders to just two third-quarter points.
Olivia Schwieterman followed her classmate with 10 points.
The Indians (1-0) dominated the glass 46-22 with Kelly Nietfeld (11 rebounds), Ericka Lennartz (10) and Kahlig (eight) powering the effort.
Reagan Aller led St. Marys with nine points.
Tori Lennartz scored 17 points to lead the FRHS junior varsity team to a 64-15 victory over the Roughriders.

Starfires perfect

South Adams’ wrestling team got off to an excellent start Saturday, sweeping its five matches at the Homestead Invitational.
The Starfires defeated Heritage 50-23, Snider 48-23, Homestead 49-21, Marion 63-18 and Churubusco 45-27.
Sawyer Miller (106 pounds) led the way for the Starfires, finishing 5-0 with pins in every match. L.J. Moser (113) also won all of his contested matches with pins as he finished 4-0.
Jordan Landers (160) and two-time state qualifier Todd Batt (138) also finished 4-0. Adding winning records for South Adams, which was undefeated during the 2010-11 regular season, were Klayton Hinshaw (182) at 4-1, Austin Grabau (132) and Isaac Werst (170) at 3-1, and Mason Morningstar (220) at 3-2.

Fruchey, Paris win
GENEVA — Madison Fruchey and Hunter Paris were the top runners in Saturday’s Rainbow Lake 5K.
Fruchey, 13, Huntertown, won the female division with a time of 18 minutes, 26.4 seconds. The Maple Creek Middle School eighth grader beat Melissa Gillette, 28, Goshen, by 12 seconds.
Paris, 27, Fort Wayne, posted a winning time of 15:36.5 in the men’s division.[[In-content Ad]]
