FRHS girls win 7th straight

MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School girls basketball team took a double digit lead in the first quarter and never let the advantage slip to fewer than eight points Thursday in a 64-48 victory over the host Marion Local Flyers. It was the seventh straight win for the Indians, all of which have come by double digits.
Sisters Kendra and Holly Brunswick powered the Tribe (16-2, 8-1 Midwest Athletic Conference), which finished 11th in this week’s Ohio Associated Press Division III poll, with 14 points apiece. Kelly Nietfeld also reached double figures with 12 points to go along with a game-high eight rebounds.
Alyssa Winner finished with 16 points to lead Marion Local (9-8, 3-4 MAC). Margaret Wuebker added 11 points.
Chelsea Pottkotter had 15 points and Janelle Schwieterman scored 10 to lead the FRHS junior varsity team to a 38-30 victory.

Blackford tops SA
BERNE — South Adams’ boys basketball team just couldn’t find the basket in the first and fourth quarters Thursday as it fell 39-21 to the visiting Blackford Bruins.
The Starfires (3-10), who have lost five straight, managed only a Dustin Wanner hoop in the first quarter. And in the fourth, they scored just one point while going 0-for-4 from the field with seven turnovers.
Zach Morgan led South Adams with nine points and eight rebounds in the defeat. Scott Hoeppner added five points.
Grant Jones cored 10 points to lead the Bruins (7-8) to the victory, and Austin Dickey had eight.
In junior varsity action, Dustin Dellinger and Ben Meshberger each had six points for SAHS in a 49-28 loss.

FR boys fall
NEW BREMEN — The season came to an end for the Fort Recovery Middle School boys basketball team Thursday with a 39-24 loss to the Marion Local Flyers in the Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.
Also Thursday, the seventh grade girls team advanced by forfeit over Parkway. The Indians will play at home Saturday at noon against St. John’s.
Cole Wendel scored six points for the Tribe boys as they finished the season at 2-12. Dillon Whitacre and Zach Tobe each added four points.

Sixth graders roll
Jay County’s six grade basketball teams had a big night Thursday, with the West Jay girls squad finishing its season with a 26-21 victory over Montpelier. The East Jay boys defeated Hartford City 43-6, and the West Jay boys topped Montpelier 45-6.
Sami Back led the WJMS girls in their final game of the year with 10 points. Kelly Cassel followed with six.
East Jay’s boys got 12 points from Jay Houck to lead their victory. Ryan Burkett joined him in double figures with 10 points.
Andrew Trewyn’s eight points keyed the Eagle boys in their 39-point win. Spencer Calvert, Jacob Myers and Bowen May each added six points.[[In-content Ad]]
