Garrett tops Starfires (09/24/2008)

GARRETT - The South Adams High School volleyball team played a close third game, but fell 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 Tuesday to the Garrett Railroaders.

Sarah Richert and Amber Neuenschwander each finished with 16 digs in the defeat.

The Starfires (1-15) have lost three straight matches in three games since picking up its first win Sept. 11 over Bluffton.

South Adams also dropped the junior varsity match, 25-9, 25-14.

FR freshmen spikers win

ROCKFORD, Ohio - Fort Recovery High School's freshman volleyball team struggled early before rallying for a 15-25, 25-23, 25-23 victory over the host Parkway Panthers.

Kayla Kahlig led the comeback win for the Indians (7-7) with team highs of 21 assists and six points. She also had four digs and two kills.

Kara Faller totaled six points and four kills, both team highs, and Ericka Lennartz added four digs and two kills. Olivia Schwieterman had five digs, and Katelyn Jutte notched a pair of blocks.

Eagles split with W-D

DUNKIRK - The West Jay Middle School eighth grade volleyball team picked up a 21-11, 21-14 victory Tuesday over the visiting Wes-Del Warriors. The seventh grades lost 21-19, 21-18.

Shelby Shirk paced the Eagle eighth graders with six points in the first game and five in the second. Shamber Knight finished the evening with six points, and Shadle Hale added five points.

EJMS 7th grade wins

With its 25-19, 25-22 victory over Winchester Drive Tuesday the East Jay Middle School volleyball team improved to 6-1. The eighth grade squad fell 20-25, 25-20, 15-11.

Katlin Petro led the effort for the seventh graders with two digs and two aces. Bailey Weatherhead had four assists.

Emily Devoe totaled 11 points, six digs and five kills for the EJMS eighth grade team (4-3). Lexie Gierhart had 12 points, and Jill Dirksen put up 11 assists.

Pottkotter leads Tribe

FORT RECOVERY - Chelsea Pottkotter powered the Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade volleyball team to a 25-11, 20-25, 25-15 victory Tuesday over the St. John's Blue Jays. The seventh grade team fell 25-7, 25-19.

Pottkotter put up team highs in points (13), which included six aces, kills (10) and blocks (three). Amy Link added 10 points and four kills for the Indians, who are now 7-3, and Janelle Schwieterman had four kills and four assists.

Lexie Schmitz had three points, including two aces, and an assist for the FRMS seventh graders (0-10). Hannah Kaup added two points and two digs.

WJ eighth victorious

MONTPELIER - West Jay Middle School's eighth grade football team improved to 3-1 with a 8-0 victory Tuesday over Blackford. The seventh graders lost, 28-14.

Dakota Nicklay scored the lone touchdown in the eighth grade game on a 7-yard run. Tyler Back, who finished with six tackles and a sack, contributed the other two points by blocking a punt out of the end zone for a safety.

Billy Kimble (11 carries, 46 yards) recorded TD runs of 2 and 3 yards and also had a two-point conversion in the second half for the seventh grade Eagles (0-4). Chaz McClain made six tackles.[[In-content Ad]]
