Garringer, Hemmelgarn lead JC

JCHS wrestling

MUNCIE — Kyle Garringer and Eric Hemmelgarn turned in perfect days for the Jay County High School wrestling team Saturday as it finished 4-1 at the Delta Super Six.
The Patriots dominated in their four wins, topping Greenwood 63-18, Greensburg 61-9, Fort Wayne North Side 54-24 and the host Eagles 57-15. Their lone loss of the day came by a 58-15 score to sectional rival Adams Central.
Garringer (195) and Hemmelgarn (285) each finished 4-0, with Garringer turning in three first-period pins. Hemmelgarn added a pair of pins, including a 46-second victory over Greenwood’s Myles Reed.
Nick Leonhard (152), Eric Beougher (170) and Nick Spahr (220) each went 4-1 with all of their wins coming by pin, and Jesse Finnerty (145) also turned in a 4-1 record. Other winning marks for JCHS came from Robert Cooper (113) and Zach Metcalf (160) at 2-1.

Moser, Miller lead SA
NEW CASTLE — L.J. Moser and Sawyer Miller both finished with undefeated records Saturday to lead the South Adams wrestling team to a 4-1 record at the New Castle Super Duals.
The Starfires defeated Union County 66-15, Alexandria 64-9, Fishers 37-30 and the host Trojans 54-18. Their onlyloss came by a 44-18 score to Mason (Ohio).
Moser (113) picked up a pair of pins and a major decision on the way to posting a 5-0 record.
Miller (106) also had two pins as he finished 4-0.
Also turning in winning records for the Starfires (15-2) were Todd Batt (138) at 4-1, Eric Pimentel (126), Nick Batt (152) and Isaac Werst (182) at 3-1, and Austin Grabau (132), Shea Pyle (160) and Mason Morningstar (220) at 3-2.

FR tankers second
CELINA, Ohio — Andy Gray and Lane Hull each won an event as the Fort Recovery boys swim team placed second out of three teams with 81 points Saturday. St. Marys Memorial won the meet with 90 points, and New Bremen (77) was third.

Fort Recovery scored 22 points in the girls competition to finish last behind St. Marys (132), New Bremen (100) and St. Henry (47).
Gray earned his victory in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.47 seconds. He was also the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.
Hull’s first-place finish came with a time of 1:06.75 in the 100 butterfly, and he also added a runner-up effort in the 100 backstroke.
Cassie Gray was the top swimmer for the Indian girls, placing third in the 500 freestyle in 7:48.11.

East Jay splits
RICHMOND — The East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team split games Saturday, beating St. Michael 38-30 in double overtime but falling 40-27 to the host Test Tigers.
Kyler Carvel scored 17 points to pace the Chiefs (2-5) in their victory. Bowen Runyon added 14 points.
Runyon led the way against Test with 10 points. Bryce Hensley and Adam Dirksen each chipped in five.

Star girls are 2nd
BERNE — South Adams’ eighth grade girls basketball team reached the Adams County tournament championship game, but lost 24-19 to Adams Central.
The Starfires reached the finals with a 26-13 victory over Bellmont.
In the seventh-grade tournament, South Adams fell 37-10 to Bellmont in the opening round and then bounced back to defeat Adams Central 14-12 in the consolation game.[[In-content Ad]]
