Garringer, Vance lead EJ Chief gridders (09/14/04)

PORTLAND — Adam Garringer and Ben Vance each scored three touchdowns Monday, leading East Jay to a couple of wins over Union City Westside. Garringer’s scores came in the eighth grade football team’s 28-0 win, while Vance took care of business as the seventh graders rolled to a 30-0 victory.
Garringer scored the final three eighth-grade Chief touchdowns as the team improved to 2-0. His scores went for 20 yards, 30 yards and five yards.
Dalton McGill also had a 30-yard touchdown run. He caught a two-point conversion pass from Billy Wellman.
Vance posted the first three scores for the seventh grade squad (1-1), running his first in from 63 yards in the first quarter. He trumped that effort with a 70-yard run in the second quarter and added a 4-yard touchdown run in the third.
Nick Stephen capped the scoring on a 54-yard run in the fourth quarter. Stephen also had a pair of two-point conversions, and Alex Langenkamp also scored on a two-point conversion.
Hole in one
He’s been golfing for 53 years, and Sam Shoemaker finally got a hole-in-one. He aced the 171-yard, par-3 15th hole at Portland Country Club Monday evening.[[In-content Ad]]
