Garringer wins state tourney (05/07/07)

There was no stopping Kyle Garringer.
Having already won the Greco and Folkstyle state tournaments, Garringer added No. 3 this weekend in the Freestyle competition. He posted another 3-0 tournament record to win the 140-pound novice division for the Patriot Wrestling Club.
Dyllan Derrickson (schoolboy - 120) and Casey Kenney (cadet - 105) each finished in third place. Kyle Blowers (cadet - HWT) and Ben Theurer (cadet - 135) placed fifth and eighth respectively.
Derrickson, Kenney and Blowers all joined Garringer in placing among the top eight in all three styles.
Stars fall to Bellmont
BERNE - The South Adams baseball team twice came back to tie the game, but couldn't do it a third time in a 4-3 loss Saturday to the Bellmont Braves.
The Starfires tied the game at two with a run in the bottom of the fourth, only to have Bellmont reclaim the advantage in the top of the next inning. They tied the score again in the bottom of the fifth, but the Braves responded again with the game-winning run in the top of the sixth.
Jordan Sharp took the loss for SAHS, giving up four runs on seven hits and a walk in 52/3 innings. He struck out two batters.
Tyler Neuenschwander went 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead the SAHS offense, and Jordan Stein had a hit and two runs. Brent Habegger added two stolen bases and a run.
Jay JV places 15th
NEW HAVEN - The Jay County junior varsity boys golf team placed 15th at Saturday's New Haven Invitational.
The Patriots finished at 373 while Carroll edged Bishop Dwenger 290-291 for the title.
Luke Darby paced the Patriots with a 39, and Adam Horn was two strokes back at 41. They were followed by Adam Coats (45), Kyle Wellman (50) and Chase Wellman (52).[[In-content Ad]]
