Giants oust JC
JCHS girls tennis
MARION - The sectional tournament ended in the usual result - a championship for the host Giants.
Marion ended the Jay County High School girls tennis team's season Saturday, defeating the Patriots 5-0 in the semifinal round of the sectional tournament. The Giants went on to win their ninth straight sectional crown.
JCHS, which finished 10-8 for its best season since 1986, picked up just a total of12 games in the five matches with the closest coming at No. 1 doubles.
Becky Muhlenkamp and Emily Huntsman trailed just 3-2 in the opening set against Nithia Chowattukunnell and Alex Davis. But they dropped three of the next four games and went on to a 6-3, 6-2 defeat.
At No. 2 doubles, Ashley Caupp and Danielle Chenoweth fell 6-2, 6-0 to Bria McCarty and Sara Lyons.
Mariah Clark fell behind 3-0 at No. 1 singles before fighting back to win three in the first set. But she couldn't keep the momentum going into the second set in a 6-3, 6-0 loss.
In the No. 2 singles match, Kayla Martin fell 6-0, 6-2 to Verinoca Sandoval. And Alyssa Rigby lost 6-0, 6-0 to Ellen Hornett at No. 3 singles.[[In-content Ad]]
