Gray leads Jay to 7-4 mark (05/23/07)

Jay County's boys golf team ran its record to 7-4 Tuesday with a big victory over Union City and Randolph Southern.
The Patriots finished at 168, well ahead of second-place Union City (184) at the three-team meet at Portland Golf Club. Randolph Southern shot a 188.
Adam Gray earned match medalist honors for JCHS on the back nine at PGC with a 4-over-par 39. Taylor Jenkinson led Union City with a 40, and Wes Frame and Zach White each had 41s for Randolph Southern.
After opening with back-to-back bogeys, Gray parred the 498-yard, par-5 12th hole and then caught fire on 14 through 16. He played even on the second par 5 - the 520-yard, par-5 14th - bogied the 168-yard, par-3 15th and nailed his third par of the round on the 354-yard, par-4 16th.
The sophomore closed with back-to-back bogies to finish the best round of the evening.
Justen Moser parred four of the final five holes and Jonathan Fennig had a stretch of consecutive pars on Nos. 12, 13 and 14 as they each followed Gray at 42. Gray Suman matched Fennig's stretch of three consecutive pars and shot 45.
Aaron Daniels finished at 48, and Chris Shannon shot 53.[[In-content Ad]]
