Gray leads Patriot golfers (04/18/08)

JCHS boys golf

BLUFFTON - The Patriots didn't score nearly as well as a team. But they did enough to pick up their first dual meet win.

Adam Gray was the only player to score better than 45 at Timber Ridge Golf Course, leading the Jay County High School boys golf team to a 185-189 victory over the Bluffton Tigers.

Gray had the only birdie of the day for JCHS, which shot 168 Wednesday, and it came on the 319-yard, par-4 opening hole. He added five pars - matching entire Tiger team total - including three straight to close his round at a 3-over-par 39.

Chase Wellman posted the No. 2 score for the Patriots as he totaled three pars for a 45.

Bluffton's top golfer, Jason Cook, also shot 45.

Adam Horn and Jonathan Fennig each had two pars for rounds of 50 and 51 respectively for JCHS. Kyle Wellman shot a 53.

Junior varsity

Brad Horn shot the best junior varsity score by seven strokes to lead Jay County to a 207-231 win over the Tigers.

Horn birdied the 361-yard, par-4 fourth hole and also had three pars in his round of 45. Isaac Poole scored a 52, and Tyler Aker and Drew Houck each finished at 55.

Adam Daniels finished with a 57.[[In-content Ad]]
