Gray leads Patriots over Blackford

The Jay County High School boys golf team picked up another victory Thursday, defeating the visiting Blackford Bruins 167-183.
Adam Gray fought off Blackford's Franklin Crist to earn medalist honors for the Patriots with a 3-over-par 38 at Portland Golf Club. He finished with four pars, and had his team's lone birdie on the 520-yard, par-5 14th hole.
Crist birdied the same hole as he finished one stroke back of Gray at 39.
Isaac Poole had a run of four consecutive pars on the 11th through 14th holes at PGC on the way to shooting 42. Chase Wellman also shot 42 as he had three pars in his round.
Drew Houck rounded out the team score with a pair of pars as he shot 45. Adams Mescher finished at 46.
Justen Keller posted a 47 to lead the JCHS junior varsity team to a 197-221 victory over Blackford.
McIntire leads JCM
Jay County Monuments posted six runs in the top of the fifth inning Thursday and then held on for a 13-12 Portland Junior League Rookie baseball victory over Pak-a-Sak.
In the other Rookie baseball game, Williams Auto Parts blanked All Circuit Electric 14-0. First Merchants Bank beat Loy Real Estate 9-5 and 17-5 in a Rookie softball double-header, and Portland Moose topped Portland Elks 10-2 in Sandy Koufax baseball.
Brandon McIntire hit his second triple and scored during Jay County Monuments' six-run final inning. He finished 3-for-3 with a home run and three runs.
Mike Schlecty had two hits, including a home run, and three runs in the Williams win. Shelby Hiestand paced First Merchants with two hits and two runs in the opener, and Sammy Twigg racked up four hits, including a double, and three runs in game two.
Zack Metcalf smacked a home run and two singles while scoring twice in the Portland Moose win.
