Gray victorious at SAHS invite

GENEVA - Adam Gray and Chase Wellman enjoyed their walk around Rainbow Lake.
Gray took first place Saturday at the South Adams Invitational. Wellman was four strokes back in third place at Wabash Valley Golf Club, which surrounds Geneva's Rainbow Lake.
The duo led the Jay County High School boys golf team to a fourth-place finish at the nine-team event with a score of 355. Garrett won at 345, followed by Fremont (348) and Wapahani (351).
The host Starfires were sixth at 383.
Gray played nearly flawless golf on the front nine, racking up eight pars as he shot a 1-over-par-37.
He closed the back nine with three consecutive pars to shoot 77, and then won in the first playoff hole.
Wellman had back-to-back bogeys before getting his first birdie of the day on the 357-yard, par-4 fourth hole. He added another on the 305-yard, par-4 seventh and had pars on the sixth, eighth and ninth holes to match Gray's front-nine score. He had two pars on the back nine to finish with an 81.
Adam Horn turned in four pars on the day to place third on the team with a 95, and Drew Houck shot 102. Isaac Poole added a 108.[[In-content Ad]]
