JCHS boys golf
GENEVA - His round wasn't perfect.
But Adam Gray turned in one great hole.
The Jay County High School junior eagled the fifth hole at Wabash Valley Golf Club Thursday to lead the Patriot boys golf team to a 168-201 victory over the host South Adams Starfires.
Gray played the first three holes at 3-over-par, but got almost all of that back on the fifth. He needed just two shots to complete the 410-yard, dogleg right for his eagle.
He added pars on the seventh and ninth holes for a match-medalist total of 39.
Kyle Wellman had Jay County's only birdie of the day on the 357-yard, par-3 fourth hole. He also had four pars as he shot a 42.
Adam Horn also outscored everyone on the Starfire roster with a 43, and Justen Moser rounded out the team score with a 44. Jonathan Fennig shot 52.
Thurman Pursley had the top score for South Adams at 44. Mark Farris followed with a 51, Landyn Waugh totaled a 52 and Ryan Moser and Zack Sharp shot matching 54s.
