Grove leads Eagles to win

BLUFFTON — Dakota Grove powered the West Jay Middle School boys basketball team to a 35-22 victory over the Bluffton Tigers in its season opener. The eighth grade team lost 33-10.
Grove racked up 14 points and six assists to lead the seventh grade Eagles. Spencer Calvert added 12 points, and Justin Crouch finished with 10 rebounds.
Danny Meranda was the top scorer for the WJMS eighth graders with five points. Lance Ferguson and Aaron Neal each added two points.
Norwell tops Chiefs
East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team lost 40-25 Monday to the visiting Norwell Knights, and the seventh graders fell 31-24.
Bryce Hensley, Bowen Runyon and Michael Vanover each scored six points for the eighth grade Chiefs. Kyler Carvel added four points.
Ryan Burkett finished with 10 points for the seventh grade squad. Jason Schlosser scored five points.
Tigers beat WJ girls
DUNKIRK — The West Jay seventh grade girls basketball team dropped its season opener 16-13 to the visiting Bluffton Tigers. The eighth graders lost 28-12.
Lilian Rogers scored four points for the Eagles in the seventh grade game. Kyndal Miller followed with three points.
Desiree Parfitt totaled six points to lead the WJMS eighth graders. Mekayla Nichols, Kendra Kane and Serrena McCaffery each scored two points.[[In-content Ad]]
