Habegger leads Starfire tankers

BERNE - Alex Habegger dominated both of his events Tuesday to lead the South Adams High School boys swim team to a 96-90 victory over the visiting Celina Bulldogs. The Starfire girls team lost, 100-83.

Habegger went unchallenged, winning the 200-yard freestyle over teammate Cory Sank by more than four seconds in 2 minutes, 8.04 seconds. He was even more dominant in the 100 breaststroke, winning by seven seconds over Celina's Riley Smith in 1:05.08.

Caleb Wurster added a victory with a time of 2:15.47 in the 200 individual medley, and Cole Farlow won the 100 freestyle in 57.34.

Allison Beitler and Erika Waugh each won a pair of events for the South Adams girls. Beitler was first in the 200 freestyle (2:13.96) and 500 freestyle (5:54.08), and Waugh earned victories in the 200 individual medley (2:21.23) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.38).

WJ, EJ boys split

DUNKIRK - The East Jay and West Jay middle school boys basketball teams split games Tuesday night, with the Chiefs taking the eighth grade contest 32-22. The host Eagles won the seventh grade game, 22-19.

Zane Shreve posted 15 points to lead the EJMS eighth graders. Zach Fullenkamp added eight points.

Kyle Selvey paced the Eagles with 10 points, and Brock Farmer scored seven.

James Williams scored 10 points to lead West Jay's seventh graders, who outscored the Chiefs 10-1 in the final quarter. Case Retter followed with seven points.

Zach Pryor had eight points to lead East Jay, and Alex Krieg scored four.

Indians still perfect

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team stayed perfect Tuesday with a 40-26 win over Union City.

The seventh graders lost 38-34.

Ben Dilworth paced the Tribe eighth graders (5-0) with 10 points. Elijah Kahlig added eight points.

Cole Wendel scored 12 points to lead the seventh grade squad. Cole Hull chipped in eight.

Chiefs hold on

East Jay Middle School's seventh grade girls basketball team won 18-12 Tuesday over visiting New Castle despite going scoreless in the final quarter. The eighth graders lost, 35-25.

Breanne McIntire scored six points to lead the seventh grade Chiefs, who led 18-6 through three quarters. Catherine Dunn and Chloe Steigerwalt each added four points.

Katlin Petro totaled nine points for the EJMS eighth graders. Katie Aker scored eight points.

Tigers defeat FR

VERSAILLES, Ohio - It was a struggle offensively Tuesday for the Fort Recovery Middle School girls basketball teams against the Versailles Tigers. The eighth graders lost 34-2, and the seventh grade team fell 24-13.

Tori Lennartz was the top Tribe scorer with seven points in the seventh grade game. Morgan Leuthold added four points.

Jackie Fullenkamp scored the lone points for the FRMS eighth graders.[[In-content Ad]]
