Hall, Daniels pitch Graphic past Elks (05/18/04)

Justin Hall and Aaron Daniels combined to strike out 15 batters and Graphic Printing got a five-run fifth inning for an 8-4 victory over Portland Elks in Portland Junior League Sandy Koufax League action Monday.

In Rookie League baseball Patriot Paints smacked Barnett’s Auto Parts 25-6, and in Minor League softball Americare slammed Vance 14-3.

Daniels struck out the first six batters he faced and finished with eight strikeouts in three innings. Hall sat down seven batters on strikeouts, and both pitchers allowed two runs.

Seth VanSkyock paced the Graphic offense with two hits, including a double, one run and one RBI. Justin Bragg had a single, a run and two RBIs, and David Darby and John Moore each singled, scored once and drove in one run.

Hall singled and scored twice.

Cody Scott had a triple and a run for Elks, and Nate Markle singled and scored twice.

Paints 25, Barnett’s 6

Patriot Paints scored at least seven runs in each inning, nine in both the first and third. Kalib Allen hit a pair of home runs to go along with a single.

Garhett Blackford, Spencer Patterson, Brandon Irelan, Kameron Petty, Matt Blackford and Jacob Schlosser notched three hits and scored three runs apiece. Matt Blackford had a double and a triple, Petty had a triple and Garhett Blackford added a double.

Zach Fullenkamp had three hits, including a home run, and one run for Barnett’s, and Wesley Hibbard tripled for one of his three hits and scored twice.

Americare 14, Vance 3

Leadoff hitter Cara Garringer racked up three hits and three runs for Americare. Lindsay Wellman had three hits, including a double, and one run, and Danielle Wellman also had three hits and a run.

Chelsea Burns notched two singles and two runs, and Krista Taylor scored three times.

Whitney Hapner had a single and a run for Vance.

Fort loses finale

The Fort Recovery baseball team dropped its final game of the season Monday to Parkway, 6-4. The Indians finished the year with an 8-17.

Thunderbirds split

The Jay County Thunderbirds under-14 soccer team took to the field twice this weekend, taking a 5-2 win over Rushville and a 3-1 loss to Henry County.

Jay County avenged an earlier loss to Rushville thanks in part to a hat trick by Dustin Fox. Brad Horn and Patrick Johnson added one goal apiece.

Horn had the lone goal in the loss to Henry County as the team slipped to 6-2 on the season.

The Thunderbirds will play their final home game Saturday at Jay County High School at 2 p.m.

Also Saturday at the game the Jay Community Center will be holding a registration session for its fall traveling soccer teams. The fall teams will be for boys and girls who will be in the fourth through seventh grades this fall.

The registration will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
