Heitkamp earns academic award (03/11/06)
Collegiate Check-up
Athletic ability. Academic prowess. Sara Heitkamp has it all.
The Fort Recovery graduate added to her lengthy list of awards again this week as she made the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.
Heitkamp, who earned Academic All-American and OAC Player of the Year honors last week, was a unanimous selection of the league’s 10 faculty athletic representatives. The early childhood education major carries a 3.82 grade point average.
Unfortunately, Heitkamp’s outstanding career at Capital is over after the No. 9 Crusader women’s basketball team lost 75-56 to fourth-ranked Hope College Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament.
Hope had a double-digit lead within the first six minutes and was up by 16 early in the second half. Capital got back within seven, but could not climb any closer.
Heitkamp finished the game with 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
She finished the season as the Crusaders’ leader in points (18.7), steals (3.6) and assists (3.5) and was second in rebounds (6.0). She is a finalist for the Jostens Trophy, which is awarded to the NCAA Division III National Player of the Year.
Abby Arnold
Jay County - 2002
Was a member of a sixth-place relay as the Ball State women’s swim team placed sixth in an eight-team field at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Arnold teamed with Michelle Huang, Brittany Sayler and Ashley VanOsdol for a time of 1-minute, 37.17 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle relay. They were 0.42 seconds behind the fifth-place team from Bowling Green.
Arnold also placed 19th in the 50 freestyle in 24.50. She was 21st in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.35 and 25th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.83.
Caleb Bye
Jay County - 2003
Posted an eighth-place finish for the Ball State men’s swim team, which was fourth out of five teams at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
Bye scored 268.15 in the three-meter event to place eighth, three points behind teammate Zach Whitaker. He was also 11th in the one-meter event with 207.55 points.
Heath Williams
Jay County - 2004
Had a pair of hits in the Ancilla College baseball team’s 8-7 loss to Grace College March 2.
Williams’ former Patriot teammate, freshman Chad Keen, pitched in the game for the Chargers, but was not involved in the decision.[[In-content Ad]]
