Heitkamp leads the Patriots

In four games, the Patriots have two wins. Both came against sectional rivals.
Nathan Heitkamp led the Jay County High School boys soccer team to its second victory Thursday, scoring twice in the second half as the Patriots topped the visiting Delta Eagles 5-3.
JCHS, which topped Muncie Central 7-2 in its season opener, led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Colton McCombs. Heitkamp helped the Patriots stay in control in the second half, and Alex Dunn and Zane Shreve also scored after the break.
Dunn, Ian Miller and Zach Fullenkamp each had an assist. Heitkamp finished with three shots on goal, and Cesar Castor, Alex Abbott, McCombs and Dunn each added two.
Kyle Dirksen shut out Delta in the first half, making two saves. Kevin Scott had two saves in the second half.

Tigers defeat Fort
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery High School boys golf team slipped to 4-9 Thursday with a 162-186 loss to the Versailles Tigers at Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Junior Elijah Kahlig racked up six pars as he led the Indians. He finished with a 39.
Brandon Groff of Versailles earned medalist honors with a 38.
Kent Retz had the lone birdie for the day for Fort Recovery as he played even on the par-4 eighth hole on the way to a 48. Chase Bruns followed with a 49, and Bryce McAbee completed the team score with a 50.

Jay Co. gets shut out
Jay County’s boys tennis team won just three games Thursday as it fell 5-0 to the visiting Northeastern Knights.
The Patriot doubles teams each managed to win a game in their second set, with Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor losing 6-0, 6-1 to Ryan Hester and Charlie Webster at No. 1 doubles. Jake Schwieterman and Evan Mathias fell by the same score to Shane Stiner and Craig Dingwerth at No. 2.

Landry Inman picked up the other game at No. 1 singles in his 6-0, 6-1 loss to Grant Esposito. Josh Martin (No. 2 singles) and Garhett Blackford (No. 3 singles) fell in shutout fashion to Jacob Rankin and Jeremy Lacey respectively.

Giants blank JCHS
MARION — The Jay County girls soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday, falling 4-0 to the host Marion Giants.
Marion grabbed the lead when Lizzie Rittenhouse scored at the 32:40 mark of the first half and remained ahead 1-0 at the break.
The Giants scored again 14 minutes into the second half and added another goal less than four minutes later to take control.
Alex Loy took half of the Patriots’ four shots on goal in the defeat. Sammi Compton and Gabbie Mann each added one.
Brooke Reynard recorded 13 saves for JCHS, which is now 2-1.
Jay County fell 2-0 in the junior varsity game. Cydney Huey took two shots on goal, and Emily Pogue finished with 10 saves.

Tribe tops ’Skins
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Jason Roessner and Andrew Stocker each scored twice Thursday to lead the Fort Recovery Middle School football teams to victory. The eighth grade topped the St. Henry Redskins 20-6, and the seventh graders won 22-6.
Roessner scored on an 80-yard pass from Caleb Martin and a 10-yard run to lead the eighth grade Indians. Martin also tossed a 12-yard TD pass to Austin Jutte.
Stocker had TD runs of 6 and 30 yards for the Tribe seventh grade team. Will Homan added a 10-yard scoring run.
