High Roller girls set record vs. HN (12/22/05)

Local roundup

The girls had by far the best night in team history, but the boys fell short of avenging last week’s defeat.

The Jay County High Rollers bowling teams battled Huntington North Wednesday, with the girls team scoring an 11-9 victory while the boys fell by the same score.

Desi Fuller paced the girls team with a high game of 227 and the top series of 398, leading it to a pair of team-record scores. The High Rollers notched a 904 second game for an 1,824 series, far surpassing the previous marks of 853 and 1,647.

Jessica Philebaum and Summer Roush each won two points for Jay County.

Andy Hughes had the top scores for the boys team — 212 game and 415 series — as it lost to conference-leading Huntington North for the second time in two weeks. It fell behind 9-1 after the opening game and could not quite come all the way back.

Chris Elmore was the lone High Roller to earn two points. The squad lost the match despite winning the overall pin total 1,907-1,883.

EJMS girls top Cavs

East Jay’s girls basketball teams are on a roll, each having won both games this week before heading to the Christmas break.

The Chief eighth grade team improved to 4-0 Tuesday with a 28-18 victory over the Coldwater Cavaliers. The seventh grade team jumped over .500 at 3-2 with a 23-5 win.

Lindsey Wellman posted 15 points to lead the eighth graders, who were up by one after the first period and gradually extended that lead. Shelby Gierhart added five points.

The seventh graders shut out Bluffton in the first quarter for a 7-0 lead and cruised to the win led by seven points from Cara Garringer. Laura Castillo scored five points.

The eighth grade team got 10 points from Wellman and five apiece from Gierhart and Loryn Horn in Monday’s 22-14 win over Southern Wells. Abby Denney and Brittany Manor each scored eight points to lead the seventh grade team to a 37-24 win.[[In-content Ad]]
