High Rollers take first defeat (12/24/03)

The Jay County Blue Jay High Rollers bowling team had the pressure on undefeated Blackford Tuesday, but fell to a 12-8 defeat.

In a battle of two previously unbeaten teams, Jay County (3-1) took seven of 10 possible points in the first game. The won the overall team score by a 913-905 margin.

However, Blackford took all but one point in the second game to pull off the victory.

Derek Powell powered the High Rollers with the high game (235) and high series (408) on the night.

The Jay County junior varsity squad dominated Marion for a 17-3 win.

Kyle Blowers had both the high game (199) and the high series (380) for the High Rollers.

The squads will take some time off before returning to action Jan. 7 at Decatur’s Villa Lanes.

FR freshmen fall

Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team dropped to 0-4 Monday with a 34-29 loss to Union City.

The Tribe rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to take a two-point lead at the end of three quarters. However, it managed just two points in the fourth period as Union City took the win.

Matt Tobe paced the Indians with eight points. Kenton Sudhoff had six, and Tony Diller finished with five.

AAU tryouts

The Jay county 12-and-under AAU girls basketball team will hold tryouts next week.

Tryouts will be Sunday, Jan. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Jay Community Center. Coaches for the team are Flint Redwine and Rick Wellman.
