Homer keys JC victory

FORT WAYNE - Michael Daniels homered for the Jay County High School baseball team Wednesday in a 9-5 victory over the host Wayne Generals.

Daniels had a huge offensive day for the Patriots (4-4), who scored three runs in the top of the second inning and never trailed. Along with his home run, he added a double, two runs and four RBIs.

Jon Pettus, who homered Tuesday in a loss to Norwell, finished 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Andre Duke was 2-for-2 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs.

Andy Haffner picked up the win, allowing five runs - three earned - on four hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out two batters.

Ty Huntsman struck out three batters in two scoreless innings for the save.

Softball stumbles

HUNTINGTON - The Patriots rallied late but fell short as they lost 6-4 Wednesday to the host Huntington North Vikings.

Jay County (1-7) gave up three runs each in the first and third innings before scoring four times in the top of the sixth for the final margin. Brittney Watson took the loss, giving up six runs - five earned - on nine hits and a walk.

Kendra Younger powered the Patriots' offense with a double, two RBIs and a run. Selena McKibben had two hits and two RBIs, and Laura Castillo finished 2-for-4 with a run.

JV baseball falls

Jay County gave up four runs in the final two innings Wednesday in a 7-5 loss to the visiting Anderson Highland Scots.

Landry Inman took the loss for the Patriots (2-5), who trailed 3-2 after four innings, took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and then could not hold on.

Devin Conatser singled, scored twice and drove in a run for JCHS. Calvin Wyatt and David Rosenbeck each had a single and an RBI.

WJMS boys roll

MUNCIE - Sean Winget turned in a pair of victories Wednesday to lead the West Jay Middle School boys track team to a 78-22 win over host Cowan.

Winget's victories came in the 100-meter dash and 200 dash, and Nate Brackman was first in the 400 dash to complete a sweep of the sprints for the Eagles. Dustin Smith took the top spot in the 110 hurdles.

Arthur Lamb won the shot put for WJMS, Dan Walter took the discus and James Williams was first in the long jump.[[In-content Ad]]
