The Yorktown Tigers never let the game get away, but could not quite keep pace as Jay County’s freshman boys basketball team grabbed a 36-30 victory Monday night.
The host Patriots (7-2) were up by five at halftime before Yorktown pulled to within two points with six minutes to play.
Jay County, which had 20 points through three quarters, scored 16 in the fourth to put the game away.
Cole Ingram paced the Patriots with 14 points. Dexter Shreve added eight points, and Phillip Powell and Kyle Simmons each scored six.
Chiefs get split
PONETO — Brad Horn made sure East Jay’s eighth grade boys team would stay perfect, leading it to a 42-39 victory over the Southern Wells Raiders Monday. The seventh grade team came so close to its second win, but fell a point short in overtime, 46-45.
Horn powered the eighth grade team to its sixth straight win to open the season as he scored 18 points. Austin Emerick added six points.
The seventh graders lost despite getting 14 points from Drew Houck, 12 by Garrett Krieg and 10 from Austin Mann. Aaron Emerick added another eight points as the team dropped to 1-5.
FR wins Indian battle
UNION CITY — Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team took the upper hand between the two tribes of Indians Monday night, defeating Union City 46-37.
Tom Will scored 22 points to carry Fort Recovery as it jumped above .500 at 3-2. Curtis Schroer had eight points, and Frank Thien scored six.[[In-content Ad]]
