Hornaday leads JC

WINCHESTER — Mariah Hornaday had team highs in kills, digs and service points Monday as the Patriots halted a three-match losing streak.
Hornaday’s 15 kills powered the Jay County High School volleyball team to a 25-23, 25-23, 20-25, 25-21 victory over the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Hornaday also had 13 kills and 12 service points for the Patriots, who improved to 10-12.
Malarie Houck added 11 service points on 19-of-19 serving, 11 digs and seven kills.
Maria Murphy totaled eight kills and 2.5 blocks, and Hannah Ainsworth put up 38 assists. Alyssa Rigby came up with nine digs, and Bri McIntire added seven kills.

Gridders fall
MARION — The Jay County junior varsity and freshman football teams lost 34-28 Monday to the host Eastbrook Panthers.

Chase Louck and Zach Metcalf each scored a pair of touchdowns for the Patriots in the game, which was tied at halftime. Louck had TD runs of 5 and 10 yards while Metcalf scored on runs of 3 and 45 yards.
Metcalf also ran in a pair of two-point conversions.
Andrew Eley and Jacob Harter led Jay County in tackles, and Donnie Miller, Logan Antrim and Hunter Prescott each had sacks.

Muhlenkamp leads
Gavin Muhlenkamp was the leading scorer Saturday in Jay Community Center’s Fall Soccer League.
Muhlenkamp tallied four goals to lead Columbia Blue to a 5-0 victory over Purple in the first/second grade division. Other leading scorers in the soccer league were Simon Pryor, Jason Ayala, Alex McFarland, Zaaron Lee, Gavin Lopez and Nathan Heitkamp with two goals apiece.
Quinn Faulkner powered Royal Blue to a 24-6 victory in the first through third grade football league, scoring all four of his team’s touchdowns. Cody Rowles also scored four TDs in the pre-school/kindergarten division.[[In-content Ad]]
