Host Delta, Jay County to meet in semifinals (10/11/04)

Jay County nearly upset a state-ranked team in the sectional championship last year. This year, it will have to go through a state-ranked squad just to get to the final match of sectional 24.
The Patriots got a bye through the first round, but will meet the sectional host Class 3A No. 8 Delta Eagles in semifinal action.
Jay County and Delta will play the second of two semifinal matches at Delta Saturday, Oct. 23 at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The two first-round matches will be played Thursday, Oct. 21 beginning at 6 p.m. Mississinewa will play Class 3A No. 7 Blackford at 6 p.m., with Tipton and Elwood to follow.
The winners of those matches will play Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m., prior to the battle between the Patriots and the Eagles. The championship match will be Saturday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
Jay County lost to Delta in their regular-season meeting Aug. 16. In their only other match against a sectional opponent, the Patriots lost to Blackford.
Delta and Blackford, the sectional favorites, met Sept. 9 with the Eagles taking a 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 win. Blackford eliminated Delta in last year’s sectional semifinal round before taking the title with a victory over two-time defending champion Jay County.
South Adams
The South Adams volleyball team, which hosts sectional action this year, will play the opening match in sectional 38.
The Starfires will open in the Star Dome against the Heritage Patriots Thursday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. The other first-round match will follow and pit Class 2A No. 3 Adams Central against Fort Wayne Harding.
The South Adams/Heritage and Adams Central/Fort Wayne Harding winners will play in the semifinal round Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. Bluffton and Woodlan, which each drew a first-round bye, will play in the other semifinal match at 12:30 p.m.
The championship match will be played two hours following the conclusion of the match between Bluffton and Woodlan.
South Adams played Heritage in the second week of the regular season, losing 25-18, 25-20, 23-25, 25-21. In matches against other sectional teams the Starfires defeated Bluffton, but lost to Adams Central and Woodlan.[[In-content Ad]]
