Hot streak continues for Tribe (02/11/04)

Fort girls basketball

The Indians won their fifth straight game and 10th of their last 11 with a 69-47 victory over the Celina Bulldogs Tuesday.

Since opening at 2-5 the Fort Recovery girls basketball team has been on fire. They won five in row, dropped a 50-45 decision Division IV No. 3 Marion Local, and now have won five more straight to improve to 12-6.

The lead for the Indians was just two points at halftime, but they dominated the second half, hitting 48 percent from the field including 4-of-6 3-pointers. They outscored Celina 43-23 in the second half to pull away.

Four players reached double figures for Fort Recovery with Holly Stein notching a team-best 14 points. She hit 3-of-5 from 3-point range and had eight rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Ciera Rammel was 5-of-8 from the field for 13 points, and Krystal Rammel and Jenn Stahl each added 10. Krystal Rammel was 8-of-10 from the foul line with a game-high nine rebounds.

Joscie Kaup chipped in nine points — all on 3-pointers — and Vicki Roessner had seven points, six assists and four steals. Tiff Gaerke added six points.

Kelli Williams had team highs of 14 points and six rebounds for the Bulldogs, who dropped from 47 percent shooting in the first half to 35 percent after the intermission. Kara Osterfeld and Andrea Bryan each had nine points.

Fort Recovery will return to Midwest Athletic Conference action Thursday when it visits the Versailles Tigers at 6 p.m.

Indian JV girls roll

The Fort Recovery junior varsity girls basketball team had little problem with Celina in a 42-21 victory Tuesday.

The Indians went up 6-0 after one period and pushed the advantage to 11 points at the end of three. They outscored Celina 12-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Julie Link finished 4-of-6 from the field for a game-high 10 points as the Tribe shot 48 percent in the second half. Renee Evers followed with six points, and Jennalee Post and Kelsie Will each had six rebounds.

Sara Fortkamp finished with five steals and four assists.

Meg Smalley paced the Bulldogs with seven points and five rebounds. Jen Brackman had five rebounds and two blocks.

Fort falls to Tigers

The Versailles Tigers were just too much for Fort Recovery Tuesday as the junior high girls basketball teams suffered a couple of losses. The Indian eighth graders dropped a 31-23 decision, and the seventh grade team lost 30-25.

Fort Recovery made valiant comeback tries in both games, but fell short.

The eighth grade team trailed 10-3 after one quarter and 21-7 at halftime. It was still down by 14 after three quarters before outscoring the Tigers 8-2 in the final period.

Jill Pottkotter carried the eighth graders (10-4) with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Val Fortkamp added five points.

The seventh grade squad (10-4) went scoreless in the second quarter as Versailles went from one point down to an 18-7 halftime lead.

Fort Recovery was still down by 11 with one quarter to go before outdoing Versailles 14-8 in the fourth to make it close.

Joanna Snyder finished with eight points and five rebounds. Kelsey Wuebker had six points, and Anne Koesters added five rebounds.[[In-content Ad]]
