Houck shoots 40 for Jay Co.
JCHS boys golf
Drew Houck was the only non-senior in the Patriots' lineup Thursday. He showed what he could do as a team leader in the future.
The sophomore shared medalist honors with two other players as the Jay County High School boys golf team posted a season-best score to defeat South Adams 168-185.
Houck, who shared the top score of 40 with teammate Adam Grady and the Starfires' Landyn Waugh, was the only player from either team to record a birdie. He had two of them, going back-to-back on the 370-yard, par-4 11th and 498-yard, par-5 12th at Portland Golf Club.
He added a par on the 178-yard, par-3 18th hole and had five bogeys for his 5-over-par round.
Gray had five pars, including four in a row on holes 14 through 17, and three bogeys to match Houck's score.
Waugh had four pars as he forged a three-way tie for medalist honors.
Chase Wellman had four pars and Adam Horn totaled two as both shot 44 to help the Patriots break 170 in a dual meet for the first time this year. Isaac Poole finished at 51.
