Hough finishes as No. 5 server in NJCAA (11/12/05)
Collegiate check-up
Having taken control of the school’s digs record early in the season, Ancilla’s Sara Hough finished her career with one of the most devastating serving seasons in the nation.
Hough, a 2004 Jay County graduate, completed her sophomore season ranked fifth in the Junior College Athletic Association’s Division II in aces with a total of 121. She was also 12th in the country in aces per game at 0.867.
She was among the best in the country in digs as well with 652 (12th) and digs per game with 4.83 (31st).
Hough capped her season at Ancilla with 57 digs as the Chargers dropped out of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region XII District E tournament. They defeated Clark State Community College, but lost to No. 12 Kellogg Community College and Muskegon Community in the tournament.
Cameron Hummel
A career best day by this 2003 Jay County graduate was not enough to bail out the Rose-Hulman football team Nov. 5 as it fell 60-21 to DePauw.
Hummel turned in the best rushing day of his collegiate career, finishing with 179 yards on 15 carries. He scored two of Rose-Hulman’s three touchdowns on runs of 66 and 44 yards.
He also went 12-of-20 through the air for 94 yards.
Abby Arnold
A 2002 graduate of Jay County, she contributed to one of Ball State’s wins as the Cardinal women’s swim team lost to Miami Nov. 5.
Arnold teamed with Brittany Sayler, Addison Del Rio and Erin Johnson to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1-minute, 47.46 seconds. They were more than a second faster than the second-place Redhawk team.
She also finished third in the 50 freestyle in 24.82, and took fifth in the 100 freestyle in 54.47.
Joscie Kaup
A 2004 graduate of Fort Recovery, she powered the Syracuse defense as the Orange volleyball team topped Seton Hall 30-16, 30-16, 26-30, 30-22 Sunday.
Kaup finished with 19 digs to lead the team. She added three aces and one assist.
Kyle Weaver
The 2003 Jay County graduate picked up a victory as the Wabash College swim team split meets with Transylvania and Rose-Hulman Nov. 4 and 5.
Weaver earned his win in the 50-yard freestyle against Rose-Hulman. He reached the wall first in 22.05 seconds.
Jill Roughia
The 2005 Jay County graduate concluded her freshman cross country season Nov. 5 at the NAIA Region VIII Cross Country Championships.
Roughia finished second on the Huntington University women’s team and 33rd overall in 20-minutes, 15 seconds. The Foresters finished seventh at the 12-team event.
Jenny Gresla
The South Adams graduate and her Denison University volleyball team completed their season with a 30-16, 30-18, 30-26 loss to Wittenberg Nov. 4.
