The Ancilla College women’s volleyball team has continued to put together an impressive first season thanks in part to a Jay County graduate.

Sara Hough had been the defensive leader for the Chargers all season, and she continued that effort last weekend in the St. Clair Community College Tournament. The Jay County graduate paced Ancilla with 53 digs as Ancilla advanced to the semifinals before falling to No.1 St. Clair.

Hough also had 28 kills on the weekend for the Chargers, who are 26-21 in their inaugural season.

She also racked up 23 digs Tuesday in a four-game loss to Muskegon Community College.

Hough currently ranks 24th in the country in the National Junior College Athletics Association with 4.9 digs per game for a total of 667 digs this season.

Scott Steiner

The senior and South Adams graduate played another big game for the Bluffton University football team as it improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 24-17 victory over Anderson University last weekend.

Steiner finished third on the team in tackles with eight, and also had one of the Beavers’ three interceptions. He returned the pick 14 yards, and one of his tackles went for a 6-yard loss.

Joscie Kaup

With the 2004 Fort Recovery graduate roaming the back line on defense, the Syracuse women’s volleyball team improved to 18-5 Tuesday with a 30-24, 30-26, 27-30, 30-25 win over Cornell.

Kaup, who plays libero for the Orange, finished with 12 digs in the victory. She has racked up 332 digs this season.

Cameron Hummel

The Jay County graduate finished just behind school record holder Charlie Key in rushing and added 69 yards through the air as the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology football team topped Millsaps College last weekend 14-7.

Key, who set a school record for rushing yards in a single game earlier this year, finished with 58 yards on 18 carries while Hummel notched 55 yards on just 11 rushes. Hummel also went 10-of-18 passing for his 69-yard total.

The victory improved the Engineers to 4-3 on the season.

Libby Michael

The Anderson University libero and 2001 Jay County graduate finished with at least 18 digs in each match during the Raven women’s volleyball team’s three-match winning streak.

Michael had her biggest match to start the run, finishing with 35 digs, two aces and one assist Oct. 16 as Anderson edged Huntington College 30-19, 22-30, 26-30, 32-30, 18-16. She came up with 26 more digs, one assist and one ace in a three-game sweep of Bluffton Tuesday.

The senior also had 18 digs and one kill in Thursday’s victory over Rose-Hulman.

The winning streak improved the Ravens to 20-10 on the year.

Jenni Little

The former Jay County Patriot and Kokomo graduate also did plenty of damage on the offensive end for Anderson during the last week.

Little posted 10 kills in the victory over Bluffton. She also had one assist and one block.

She had six kills, two blocks and one dig against Rose-Hulman and five kills, two blocks and one dig versus Huntington.[[In-content Ad]]
