Hudson powers JCHS

ANDERSON - Mary Hudson led a pair of sweeps Thursday in the Jay County High School girls swim team's 108-75 victory over the Anderson Highland Scots. The Patriot boys slipped to 0-2 with a 114-66 loss.
Hudson's wins both came in dominating fashion, the first by more than 15 seconds in the 200-yard individual with a time of 2:27.77 in front of teammates Laura Bowen and Elaine Hemmelgarn. She took the 500 freestyle by 43 seconds in 6:06.37 with Bowen second and Marissa Murrell third.
Eme Miller paced another sweep for the JCHS girls (4-1) in the 100 butterfly in 1:10.19 in front of Michaela Long and Martyna Gajewska.
Hemmelgarn finished first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.78. Megan Taylor posted a score of 183.65 to win the diving competition by nearly 30 points.
Aaron Hudson earned two of the three wins for the Patriots boys with times of 2:17.74 in the 200 individual medley and 1:07.17 in the 100 breaststroke. Neal Fennig edged Jake Fugate in the 50 freestyle by nine hundredths of a second in 24.32.
Chiefs defeat UC
East Jay Middle School's girls basketball teams each limited Union City Westside to just two first-half points Thursday. The eighth graders went on to a 28-12 win, and the seventh grade team picked up a 28-10 victory.
Katlin Petro scored eight points for the eighth grade team (2-1), which blanked Westside in the second quarter and led 17-2 at halftime. Abby Dunlavy added six points.
Catherine Dunn had 12 points for the seventh grade Chiefs (3-0), who turned in a shutout first quarter and were up 18-2 at the half. Lucy Hemmelgarn followed with four points.
WJMS tops Selma
DUNKIRK - The West Jay seventh grade boys basketball team improved to 4-1 Thursday with a 34-30 victory over visiting Selma.
Nate Brackman did more than 60 percent of the scoring for the Eagles as he finished with 21 points and five rebounds. Case Retter added five points.[[In-content Ad]]
