Hummel named SCAC Player of the Week (10/22/05)

Collegiate check-up

Jay County graduate Cameron Hummel has led the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to four wins in its last five games. He has the squad at 5-2 overall, the most wins by any Engineer team since 1995, and a perfect 4-0 on the road.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed.

Hummel was named a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week for his play in Rose-Hulman’s 35-21 victory at Millsaps Oct. 15. Hummel shared his honor with Centre running back Adam Blandford.

The junior finished 14-of-28 passing for a career-high 260 yards against Millsaps. He tossed four touchdown passes — 55 yards to Nate Richter, 14 and 35 yards to Justin Meade and 22 yards to Charlie Key — for another career-best.

He also had nine carries for 46 yards.

Hummel ranks second in the SCAC this season with 154 passing yards per game, and is the conference’s top player in total offense at 216 yards per game. He has completed 79-of-160 passes for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns, and has 439 yards and four touchdowns rushing.

He also has caught two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown.

Sara Hough

A graduate of Jay County, she helped the Ancilla College volleyball team to the title as tournament hosts Oct. 15.

Hough racked up a team-best 24 kills as the Chargers tolled over Indiana University Northwest and College of DuPage each in three games. She also had 29 digs and five aces as Ancilla lost 18-30, 30-28, 30-21, 30-26 to Muskegon Community College Tuesday.

The sophomore ranks seventh in the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division II in aces with .976 per game (88 total). She is 31st in digs per game with 4.8 for a total of 437.

Joscie Kaup

The Fort Recovery graduate and he Syracuse University volleyball team has a slow but successful week, winning their lone match 30-27, 30-24, 29-31, 30-21 over Marquette Oct. 15.

Kaup had nine assists and one ace as the Orange improve to 16-7 overall and 5-2 in the Big East. She ranks ninth in the 16-team conference with 3.82 digs per game.

Mark Kelly

The 2005 Jay County graduate has seen some action for the Taylor University football team on offense and special teams.

Kelly returned a kickoff 14 yards in a 45-14 loss to NAIA No. 15 Walsh Oct. 15.

Jill Roughia

A Huntington University freshman and 2005 Jay County graduate, she helped the Forester women’s cross country team to a second-place finish at the Manchester College Invitational Oct. 15.

Roughia was third on the team and 21st overall as she finished in 20-minutes, 23 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
