JCHS girls track

GAS CITY - Windy days haven't slowed down the Jay County girls track team thus far, and neither could the Mississinewa Indians.

The undefeated Patriots got double wins again from Amanda Johnson and Erika Hunt to lead an 84-34 victory Monday of the host Indians.

Results from the boys portion of the meet were not available at press time.

Johnson was in on wins in each of the four events she competed in as Jay County pushed its record to 4-0. She won by a five-second margin in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 14-minutes, 15 seconds, and cruised in the 400 dash at 1:07.

Hunt stayed perfect on the year, winning both hurdle events for the third straight meet. She led a sweep in the 300-meter race, winning in 53.7 seconds, just one second ahead of Kari Hemmelgarn and three in front of Stephanie Wellman. She also went one-two with Wellman in the 100 hurdles with a winning time of 17.9.

Johnson and Hunt teamed up with Jessica Mosier and Sarah Mescher in the 4x400 relay for a winning time of 4:40. Johnson, Jessica Mosier, Kylie Wellman and Tina Gingrasso won the 4x800 relay at 11:17.

Mosier and Mescher also contributed one individual win apiece. Mosier took first place in the 800 run at 2:43.8, and Mescher led a sweep of the 100 dash in 13.4 with Kelsey Wood and Janel Chittum in second and third.

Wood turned in a leap of 14 feet, 51/2 inches to win the long jump ahead of teammates Lindsey Current and Nicole Pfeifer. Current also led a sweep of the high jump, clearing the bar at 5 feet, 2 inches with Wood and Mosier in second and third.

Mescher, Wood, Pfeifer and Chittum finished in 56.8 to win the 4x100 relay.[[In-content Ad]]
