Hunt takes 3 against Central (02/08/07)

MUNCIE - The Patriots have to hope Wednesday night was a sign of things to come.
Competing at the site of the sectional meet, Jay County put up its best score of the year Wednesday with a 99.7-88.925 victory over the Muncie Central Bearcats.
Erika Hunt had a big evening for the Patriots, winning three events as Jay they surpassed their previous best score (97.95 Jan. 27 at New Castle) by nearly two points. Freshman Nadlie Runyon was right behind her junior teammate with three second-place efforts as she took the all-around win.
Jay County's sectional score at Muncie Central a year ago was 99.75, and was followed by a 100.6 at the regional tournament.
Hunt had her best score on the floor exercise, where she edged Runyon by just five hundredths with a score of 8.85. Her other wins came on the vault (8.55) and balance beam (8.3), and she was also third on the uneven bars with a 7.375 for a second-place all-around score of 33.075.
Senior Lacey Thornburg made it a clean sweep of events for the Patriots as she took first on the bars with an 8.125.
Runyon won the all-around competition just ahead of Hunt as she totaled 33.25 points with three runner-up efforts. She was second behind Thornburg on the bars (7.375) and trailed Hunt on the floor (8.8) and beam (8.2).
Kendra Homan finished second on the vault with an 8.5 with Runyon third at 8.45.[[In-content Ad]]
